Is the 6L80/90 transmission right for me?
What model year and drivetrain configuration LS-Engine can the conversion be done with?
Currently, we have only developed a system for the following Gen IV 2007-Present LS engines & wiring harnesses using a T42 49-Way Transmission Control Module (TCM) connector:
(4.8L, 5.3L, 6.0L, 6.2L, 7.0L) LS2, LS3, LS4, LS9, LSA, L76, L92, L98, L99, LC9, LH6, LMC, LY2, LY5, LY6
We are actively working to address the 2006 and older Gen III 24X motors and Gen I and Gen II SBC/BBC motors in a fully plug and play electronic approach. If your are interested in our 24X-58X conversion kit contact us.
Can my pre-2007 Engine/Harness be converted?
The Engine Control Modules (ECM) that communicates with the 6L80/90 Transmission Control Module (TCM) is programmed to only recognize Gen IV LSx engines. Specifically the 58X crankshaft reluctor ring, the 4x cam shaft sprocket, and relocated externally mounted knock sensors. The pre-2007 model year Gen III and Gen IV motors (LS2 Corvette notwithstanding) operate with a 24x crankshaft reluctor ring, a 1x camshaft sprocket, and knock sensors located internal to the engine.
A mechanical solution has already been designed, however, as it requires an additional harness and partial engine disassembly we are presently only going to offer it as an installation only service.

What components are included in the conversion system?
If you already have a running vehicle or harness with Drive By Wire (DBW) 58X Gen IV LS engine and 4L70E, 4L80E, 4L85E transmission with 49way connector T42 TCM, then you simply need our T42-T43 Module Interface. Popular compatible harnesses are from:

Running All Trailblazer SS's will require, at a minimum, the TCM Interface Module, harness and custom programmed ECM. Yes the ECM can be programmed as any other ECM by your favorite tuner for your specific vehicles other modifications.
Can you make me a custom wiring harness?
Yes. You have two options.
First, is our GM Performance Parts (GMPP) LS-Control 6L80E/6L90E Conversion System. Pre-programmed and wired to go!:
P/N# 19166567 (LS376/480), 19166568 (LS), 19201861 (LS7), 19201327 (LS2)
The second option is a custom harness for your CANBus 58X engine transmission needs. Unlike the competition, our harness will include our interface module that will allow you the flexibility in changing your transmission options, without changing your entire harness. What makes your harness system different than the others?
Any harness provider can make you a GEN III wire harness and most can make a Gen IV engine harness. However, the harness manufacturers will limit your options in transmissions to fully mechanical transmissions and older generation 4L65E, 4L70E, 4L80 transmission. Your harness will be hardwired for use with a specific transmission.. ONLY! Additionally you will not be able to use a 6L80 or 6L90 transmission.
Only TBMSport will provide you with a Gen IV engine-transmission harness that allows you to use the latest transmissions (4L65E 4L70E, 4L80E, 4L85E, 6L80E, and 6L90E) with a simple pigtail harness swap. That gives you flexibility with your project's transmission options, peace of mind with your harness purchasing decision, higher vehicle resale value, and ZERO harness removal/re-installation frustrations and losses.
Can you source a transmission for me?
We can source a transmission for your application. Your choice will be salvage recycling, new or custom built. All transmissions will come with a warranty from the transmission source or builder for at least 90 days, unlimited miles.
All TBMSport sourced 6L80/90 transmissions will include torque converter, pan, bellhousing, cooling lines and gaskets. If the transmission is new, then all parts will be new. If the transmission is recycled these included parts may be new, used, or a combination. Quoted pricing will be based on availability and shipping costs.
What additional modifications and parts will be necessary for installation?
The 6L80/90 transmission will require its cooler lines to be cuts and connected to your original factory cooler lines via an included connector kit.
The 6L90 transmission is slightly longer and taller than a comparable configuration 6L80 due to it's beefier internals. GM states, ". It is a heavy-duty version of the 6L80 six-speed automatic, with a strengthened input gearset which has two additional pinion gears for six total, and a strengthened output gearset, that uses wider gears than the 6L80. The 6L90 flexibilty extends to the clutches where the 6L90 has one more clutch plate than the 6L80 in each clutch for heavy duty applications. "
The 6L90 case is about 1.4" (35mm) longer than the 6L80 case.
